A Friends Group is a dedicated team of volunteers who are passionate about protecting, enhancing, and preserving a specific El Paso County park, trail, open space, nature center, or recreation facility. Working in partnership with El Paso County Parks, Friends Groups provide valuable volunteer service, leadership, and advocacy to help ensure these treasured places remain healthy, beautiful, and welcoming for generations to come.
Friends Groups contribute their time, talents, and resources in a variety of ways, including habitat restoration, park beautification, fundraising, volunteer events, educational programs, community outreach, and stewardship projects. Their efforts strengthen the connection between our parks and the communities they serve while creating lasting improvements that benefit all visitors.
Friends Group Goals
Friends Groups work alongside El Paso County Parks to:
- Increase community involvement by encouraging residents to take an active role in caring for their local parks and open spaces.
- Enhance parks and recreation facilities through volunteer service, fundraising, conservation, and stewardship projects that protect natural resources and improve the visitor experience.
- Build lasting partnerships by fostering long-term relationships between El Paso County Parks and community volunteers, with the vision of establishing a Friends Group for every County park, trail, open space, nature center, and recreation facility whenever possible.
Together, Friends Groups and El Paso County Parks are building stronger communities, protecting our natural resources, and creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect with the outdoors.
